Curriculum by Year Group

Our curriculum has been developed and fully reviewed to ensure that we are complying with our legal duties with regards to Equality and Diversity, as well as ensuring that it reflects and supports the unique and diverse characteristics of our school population. Inclusivity and accessibility are extremely important to us, and this is reflected within our curriculum planning and delivery, covering a variety of learning styles and linking to focussed interventions to ensure all our pupils are able to access our full curriculum at the appropriate level.

The following documents show the framework for our teaching in each of our year groups. These are all available to download, or copies can be obtained from the school office by calling 0161 464 3170 or e-mailing office@deansprimary.uk

Early Years Curriculum

At The Deans Primary school, we hope to give all of our students access to high quality teaching and learning that will inspire, engage and challenge our children in all subject areas.

Our Early Years Department is shaped by the four overarching guiding principles of Early Years:

  • every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
  • children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
  • children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time
  • the importance of understanding learning and development. Children develop and learn at different rates.

Our educational programme is shaped by seven areas of learning:

  • 3 prime areas – communication and learning, physical development, personal, social and emotional development.
  • 4 specific areas – literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive art and design.
  • We are passionate about children learning with an active, hands on approach and using our outdoor space as much as our indoor areas
