Everyday x15 minutes.
Children each have a reading book from our school reading scheme, matched exactly to their reading level. They should read their book for 10 minutes with an adult, at home for 4 days per week. To aid understanding and progression, they should also discuss what they have read with an adult for 5 minutes, using the questions in the front of their reading records. Every day when children read, they should have their books signed by an adult. Messages regarding how they have done, anything they struggled with etc. can go in here.
Once per week, instead of reading their school reading book, children will be asked to read a ‘shared text’. This is a text that the whole class will read and will be discussed and worked on in a lesson with the class teacher the following day. Children will be able to access a video of their teacher reading the text aloud, on Class Dojo each week. They can either choose to read independently or follow the text and use the video to help support them if they need it, or find the text particularly challenging.
5-10 minutes daily
Children’s spellings will be set for them on Spelling Shed. With built-in scaffolding and support, the games on Spelling Shed allow children to practise their spellings at a level that they are comfortable with.
5-10 minutes daily
In order for children in Key Stage 2 to achieve the national curriculum objective of being able to recall multiplication facts up to 12×12, children should practise using Times Table Rockstars (TT Rockstars).

Children should come into school on PE days dressed in PE kits.

Fruit is provided for our children in year 1. Children also have the oppportunity to buy a small snack of either breadsticks, crackers or raisins at our tuckshop at breaktime - items are 10-20p each. Please can children bring in their own named water bottles everyday.
Phonics is the teaching of sounds in order to learn to read and write.
Children are grouped according to their reading ability for phonics in order to ensure that they are learning exactly what they need and make the best possible progress. We learn sounds along with Fred the Frog and these are built into words for reading and writing. Words become sentences and sentences become stories. A wide world of possibilities is opened up for your child.
Our focus in Maths is Numbers to 50. All children need to count, read, write and make numbers to 50. We will be ensuring that all children can count by making groups of 10. Partitioning numbers into tens and ones and looking at one more and one less.
Our Non-Number focus is looking at mass and capacity. The children will be using vocabulary such as: heavy, light, full and empty.
We use ready, steady write to teach our English lessons. This is a text based approach and follows the writing cycle:
