School of Sanctuary

As part of our inclusive ethos, we have made a commitment to working towards becoming a School of Sanctuary within our community. We believe it is incredibly important that any displaced people see our school and school community as a safe place, where they will feel welcomed, supported and embraced for the contribution that they will bring to our school and our culture.

We support the ‘City of Sanctuary’ vision that the UK will be a welcoming place of safety for all and proud to offer sanctuary to people fleeing violence and persecution.

We endorse the City of Sanctuary Charter, and agree to act in accordance with City of Sanctuary values and apply the network principles within our school.

We recognise the contribution of people seeking sanctuary. Sanctuary seekers are welcomed, included and supported within our context.

We will seek to educate all members of our school and school community about the challenges faced by those seeking sanctuary, and raise awareness of the issue of forced displacement. We will ensure we have a diverse range of literature and resources available to support this education, and that this is available both to our children within school and the wider school community.

As part of our Culture Week, we will link with the Manchester Refugee Support Network to raise awareness of the support that is needed within our community, encourage donations of items to support the charity and host a special refugee awareness assembly.
